The 5 Best Modular Building Companies in Australia

Updated: Oct 23, 2019

Has Dwellie gone mad?

You may be thinking... Why on earth are these guys helping their competition?

Well, we like to keep it transparent and give credit where it's due. We aren't the only modular builder in town and other modular building companies are fantastic too!

In no particular order, this is an unbiased list of our 5 favourite modular building companies...

1. Modscape

Veteran builders, steel-frame modules

Probably the most recognised brand-name in the industry, Modscape has been running for over 10-years. They are equipped to service both residential and commercial projects.

They also offer an end-to-end service that includes full design and fit-out, site works, solar + battery systems, wastewater treatment, and custom designs with limitless add-ons. They use sustainable materials and have amazing architecture and design throughout their portfolio.

2. Archiblox

Eco-friendly focused, timber-frame modular builders

Not too far from our own office is Archiblox, they are a sustainable building and environmentally concerned modular building company that has done some really impressive work.

Their design range features a number of off-the-shelf concepts that clients can customize, this is a more cost-effective approach than doing a project from scratch with Archiblox, in most cases. Their product is high-quality, their finishes look great and they too boast a nice portfolio of past projects,

3. i-Build

Less fancy, more savings. Commercially oriented builder

i-Build is an innovative modular builder, kit homes, and building supplier. They have contracts with the VIC government, and the U.N to supply affordable housing and modular solutions. This is quite a different approach to the luxurious and consumer-focused approached most modular builders in Australia take.

They have a good range of cost-effective designs for residential clientele as well, however they are more of an 'off-the-shelf' builder rather than custom architectural designs. They are doing really well by the look of things with their unique approach - great job i-Build.

4. Eco Liv

Eco-friendly focused, sustainable designs

Similar to ourselves and Archiblox, Eco Liv concentrates and has created a strong brand around building sustainable modular homes. Their homes are resource-efficient and combine passive solar design, construction waste reduction and systems integration. Overall, their approach is even more eco-friendly focused than our own.

Their methods focus on optimising operational performance using modular prefabricated construction to reduce environmental impact. Solar electricity and hot water, efficient lighting and 10,000 litres of rainwater storage also come standard with Ecoliv homes to reduce environmental impact.

5. Prebuilt

Long-time in the industry, high-end homes, NSW and VIC

Opening up shop around 15-years ago, Prebuilt is one of the most experienced Australian modular and prefab builder. These days, the majority of their work is in the commercial sector - shops, offices, hospitals, schools etc.

Nevertheless, they have an active residential department which completes 15-20 homes each year around Australia, offering predesigned houses and custom designs, usually in partnership with architects Pleysier Perkins.
